SPEERI at Net Zero Innovators 2025
The inaugural Net Zero Innovators Conference 2025 delivered a dynamic and thought-provoking experience for energy professionals, entrepreneurs, and clean tech enthusiasts alike. With 350 attendees, over 50 exhibiting startups, and an agenda packed with forward-looking discussions, the event offered a powerful blend of insight, networking, and cutting-edge clean energy technologies.
It was difficult to choose from the range of quality panel sessions, but a few stood out to me for their content and caliber of speakers:
Unlocking Energy Innovation, a deep dive into the ingredients required to build the next clean tech unicorn.
Themed sessions on The Future of Renewables, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), and Hydrogen shed light on where each sector is heading and what’s holding it back.
Entrepreneurship: From the Lab to the Real World, a panel focused on creating successful energy startups, featuring speakers from GB Energy, Myriad Wind, CCS International, and Ventex Studio. They highlighted the stark difference between technical readiness and adoption readiness. A compelling quote that resonated deeply was “Having great tech doesn’t mean you have a great business.”
Scotland’s ambition to lead in environmental technologies was also critically examined, with a clear call for scaling beyond pilot projects and injecting significant investment to convert promising ideas into deployable solutions.
Another highlight of the conference was the number of tech innovators exhibiting, sharing their journey and innovations with attendees such as Robocean, subsea robotics for seagrass restoration, ROCKIT, a technology innovation for sealing well leakage and CCU international working in cutting edge carbon capture , along with industry support organisations where discussions centred around collaborative activity with SPEERI to maximise value for the clean energy sector.
Final Thoughts…The Net Zero Innovators Conference 2025 successfully brought together the right people, ideas, and technologies to spark meaningful conversations and collaborations. The event underscored the pressing need for real-world deployment, scale, and investment—and served as a hopeful reminder that, with the right support, Scotland has the potential to lead the next wave of clean energy innovation. Looking forward to next year already!
